Learn How To Keyword Search On Google

To keyword search on Google could not be simpler. All you need is a Gmail account and then open the link for Google AdWords.

To get started you need to click on the Tools and Analysis dropdown menu, then click on Keyword Planner. Example screen shot below.

Next we want to have a look at some key words which apply to our buisness. In this case I am researching keywords for a publishing company called Ilex.

First we need to select 'Search for new keyword and ad group ideas' from the What would you like to do menu.

After this step has been completed we need to provide some information so that the search can start. We need to provide a word that sums up your product or service. In my case this is books. Next we need to provide the webaddress of the company you are researching, in my case http://www.ilex-press.com/ and then provide your product catagory. Again in my case News, Media & Publications. Example screen shot shown below.

Now we can start to look at some suggested keywords that may be valuble to the buisnesses level of online visibility. The search will highlight the keyword itself, average number of monthly searches, the level of competition for that particular keyword and the price of the keyword. It also gives you an analysis of when the keyword is searched for i.e. at xmas. The search results should look like this below.

This is a great way to manage your companies online visibility and could be a step in the right direction to improve your business.

Ford E-mail Marketing

A few months ago I decided to purchase a new car from Ford. At the time I was working for Ford at their UK headquarters in the marketing sales and service department in Essex.

There where many heated debates about email marketing and weather it positively or negatively effects the customer experience and what effect this will have on the business.

After I had finalized the purchase of my new car I was sent a number of conformation emails with digital documents containing terms and conditions etc. I also received an email titled 'Ford really values your opinion', this was a personalized, call to action email with an incentive of being entered into a prize draw to win £2000.

Ford dealerships and their dealership staff get assessed on their performance via a CVP (customer viewpoint survey), this email specified that I had to complete the survey by following a link embedded in the email, the email also provided a password which I would need to use when accessing the survey.

The link it took me to a Ford themed webpage where I could enter the provided password. This action could be improved by instead of accessing the survey via a password the embedded link should log you straight into the survey.

At Ford I was lucky to see both sides of the business internally as an employee and externally as a customer. While I was at work we took email marketing very seriously, it was used as tool to improve our customers experience and therefore improve our retention of those customers.

Seeing the email marketing campaign in action as a customer was a helpful experience as it allowed me to see from a normal customer perspective. This helped me realize that Ford's email marketing positively impacts upon the customer experience because they help keep you updated with information you need to get the most out of your product. This highlights the importance of email marketing to the success of businesses.

Google Analytics Dashboards from Econsultancy

Today I have been researching custom Google Analytic dashboards and reports on Econsultancy.com.

The post describes 10 custom Google Analytics reports that could be helpful for publishers. The blog shows you how each one of the 10 customization may help you analyse your published work via Google Analytics, this blog also allows you to download this customized report straight to your own Google Analytics account via a link on the page. I decided the custom report posted by Dashboardjunkie could be the most appropriate to what I am doing on Google Analytics. This customized report offers features like being able to see how people have found your blog i.e. via Google search or YouTube. More features include how many people are viewing your blog, which of your posts are the most popular, where your readers live and are your reader mobile.

This report offered many benefits that are usable in analyzing my blog, however the dashboardjunkie report did not contain some features which I feel will be important in monitoring my blog.  The dashboardjunkie customized report inspired me to build my own custom report and tailor it to my needs.

I decided to log into my Google Analytics account and start building my own report via the 'Customization' tab at the top of the page. I looked through the categories that where available and chose some custom metrics which would show on my report, examples of some of the metrics I chose are, number of page views my blog is getting, the bounce rate the blog is experiencing, what city my readers live in and on what continent this city is located. These metrics have allowed me to analyse my blog more effectively.

From my experience of creating my own report I would suggest that all Google Analytics users give it a go!
